Bento Grid

Tiles span columns and rows and pack densely, so there are no holes. Below 560px of its own width it becomes one column. Tiles can be links, and can light up under the pointer or lift with a soft glow.

The decision inside it

It reflows by its own width

The grid folds to one column when it is narrow, not when the screen is, so it works inside a sidebar or a preview as well as full width.

When to use it

Use Bento Grid for a feature section with tiles of different sizes, each with a picture or small demo on top. It becomes one column below 560px of its own width.

Installation

How you get it

Paste this into Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or any coding agent. It installs the file and uses it as it is, instead of writing a new one.

Use Layro's Bento Grid for this.
Install it: npx shadcn@latest add @layro/bento-grid
(the @layro registry is set up in components.json, with LAYRO_KEY in .env.local)
Import it from @/components/ui/bento-grid.
Do not rewrite or restyle it. Pass my data through its props
and keep its built-in states.

For the full brief with every prop and the mistakes assistants usually make, use Copy prompt above. Pro components install through the @layro registry with your CLI token: see the Namespaced tab.

Usage

components/features.tsx
import { BentoGrid } from "@/components/ui/bento-grid";

export function Features() {
  return (
    <BentoGrid
      columns={3}
      cardVariant="spotlight"
      items={[
        { id: "flow", title: "Four steps to signed", description: "Upload, place fields, send.", colSpan: 2 },
        { id: "status", title: "Everyone's status", description: "Who opened, signed or stalled.", rowSpan: 2 },
        { id: "phone", title: "Sign anywhere", description: "Any phone, no app." },
        { id: "audit", title: "Audit trail", description: "Every step, stamped.", href: "/audit" },
      ]}
    />
  );
}

Responsive behavior

  • Sizes to its container, not the viewport
  • Usable from 320px up
  • Pointer-based interaction, so trackpad and touch both work
