Hold to Confirm

A button that fills while held and fires when full, for voiding a contract or deleting a workspace. Letting go drains it back, Space or Enter hold it from the keyboard, and onConfirm can be async.

The decision inside it

The fill is the confirmation

"Are you sure?" dialogs get clicked through unread. Holding for a second and a half is a decision you feel making, and letting go early shows how close you came.

When to use it

Use Hold to Confirm for an action that is hard to undo but common enough that a dialog would nag: delete a draft, void a signature request. Press and hold, or hold Space or Enter. For rare, serious actions use a confirm dialog.

Installation

How you get it

Paste this into Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or any coding agent. It installs the file and uses it as it is, instead of writing a new one.

Use Layro's Hold to Confirm for this.
Install it: npx shadcn@latest add @layro/hold-to-confirm
(the @layro registry is set up in components.json, with LAYRO_KEY in .env.local)
Import it from @/components/ui/hold-to-confirm.
Do not rewrite or restyle it. Pass my data through its props
and keep its built-in states.

For the full brief with every prop and the mistakes assistants usually make, use Copy prompt above. Pro components install through the @layro registry with your CLI token: see the Namespaced tab.

Usage

components/void-request.tsx
import { HoldToConfirm } from "@/components/ui/hold-to-confirm";

export function VoidRequest({ voidIt }: { voidIt: () => Promise<void> }) {
  return <HoldToConfirm label="Hold to void" confirmedLabel="Voided" tone="destructive" onConfirm={voidIt} />;
}

  • Honours prefers-reduced-motion

Responsive behavior

  • Sizes to its container, not the viewport
  • Usable from 320px up
  • Pointer-based interaction, so trackpad and touch both work
