Delegate Board

A queue of tasks beside your agents, each with skills, a load bar, busy until and its tasks. Drag a task onto an agent, or press Enter and pick one from a menu; drag it back or press the cross to unassign. Auto sends every new task to the compatible agent that is free first.

The decision inside it

An agent refuses the drop before you let go

Dropping "Send the invoice" on an agent with no billing access, and finding out an hour later, is the failure it prevents. While you drag over an agent it shows either "Busy until 14:20 (+12 min)" or "Can't: no billing access", and an agent that can't take it does not accept the drop.

When to use it

Use Delegate Board to hand queued tasks to agents by drag or keyboard, with each agent's load and busy-until, refusals for agents that lack a needed skill, and an Auto mode. Pass refuse for your own rules.

Installation

How you get it

Paste this into Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or any coding agent. It installs the file and uses it as it is, instead of writing a new one.

Use Layro's Delegate Board for this.
Install it: npx shadcn@latest add @layro/delegate-board
(the @layro registry is set up in components.json, with LAYRO_KEY in .env.local)
Import it from @/components/ui/delegate-board.
Do not rewrite or restyle it. Pass my data through its props
and keep its built-in states.

For the full brief with every prop and the mistakes assistants usually make, use Copy prompt above. Pro components install through the @layro registry with your CLI token: see the Namespaced tab.

Usage

components/delegate.tsx
import { DelegateBoard, type DelegateAgent, type DelegateTask } from "@/components/ui/delegate-board";

const tasks: DelegateTask[] = [
  { id: "t1", title: "Send the October invoice", estimateMin: 10, needs: ["billing"], priority: "high" },
  { id: "t2", title: "Summarise the renewal thread", estimateMin: 15, needs: ["email"] },
];

const agents: DelegateAgent[] = [
  { id: "ana", name: "Ana", role: "Billing agent", skills: ["billing", "email"], queuedMin: 20, maxLoadMin: 60 },
  { id: "rex", name: "Rex", role: "Research agent", skills: ["email", "search"], queuedMin: 5 },
];

export function Delegate({ assign }: { assign: (taskId: string, agentId: string) => Promise<void> }) {
  return <DelegateBoard tasks={tasks} agents={agents} onAssign={assign} />;
}

States

All of them are drawn by the component. None is left for you to design.

  • Queue
  • Dragging
  • Refused
  • Assign pending
  • Assign failed
  • Auto
  • Overloaded

Accessibility

  • Keyboard reachable throughout, in visual order
  • Focus trapped in overlays, Escape closes them
  • Focus returns to whatever opened it
  • Live regions announce what changed, not that something did
  • Honours prefers-reduced-motion

Responsive behavior

  • Sizes to its container, not the viewport
  • Usable from 320px up
  • Pointer-based interaction, so trackpad and touch both work
  • No hover-only affordances
